Even the New York Post is now admitting Donald Trump is finished
For the past year and a half, the entire mainstream media has chased ratings by insisting that Donald Trump was a lock for 2024. But back in the real world, polling since January 6th, 2021 has consistently shown that only about half of Republican voters want Trump in 2024 – a devastatingly ugly number given his name recognition and recent incumbency.
It was a matter of time before Trump’s ugly numbers fell even further, and now they have. One straw poll last week suggested that Trump was no longer even the Republican frontrunner for 2024. Now the January 6th public hearings are off to a devastatingly bad start for Trump, both in terms of making him even more toxically unpopular with voters in the middle, and in terms of making clear that he’s very likely going to end up criminally indicted.
So it’s perhaps no surprise that the New York Post Editorial Board is now calling for the Republican Party to ditch Donald Trump in terms of 2024. Sure, this is the same far right New York Post propaganda rag that was perfectly willing to hype a phony Hunter Biden story in the hope of giving Trump a second term. But at this point Trump is clearly doing more harm than good when it comes to the Republicans’ prospects for ongoing power, and so the Post is choosing its own corrupt ambition over Trump’s corrupt ambition.
This is roughly how this was always going to go. No one should be surprised that Bill Barr and Ivanka Trump are selfishly testifying against Donald Trump, or that the famously pro-Trump New York Post is calling for Trump to be ousted from politics. These types always care more about their own ambition and hide than they do about anyone else’s. Of course they’re ditching Trump now that they’re finally being forced to choose themselves over him.
