In a vast and Putin-run Russia, darkness abounds. I do not speak of the darkness outside. I am referring to the darkness inside – the darkness that permeates from State-Run Russian media where every word is carefully curated to hide reality and tell the Russian people only lies and propaganda.

Since Putin’s war started, many in Russia have been left in the dark as it relates to what information they can consume. But something quite interesting is happening. This “something” was discussed in detail on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show and is also being reported about from several different sources.

Russian TV is defying Putin. Some on Russian Television are calling for an end to Putin’s war. For example, there is a show on Russian Television by the name of “An Evening with Vladimir Soloviev.”

Just the other night, this show aired, and something very surprising happened. The guests on this show went off-script. They began rebuking Putin’s invasion. These guests said Putin was, in fact, perhaps reaching for something unattainable and that he might be pushing Russia into isolation: “Do we need to get into another Afghanistan, but even worse?”

At last, a bit of honesty was interjected into the dystopian Russian propaganda. The host of said show quickly interrupted to get things back on track, but the damage had been done.

Of course, this is only a tiny amount of the information among a sea of dishonest falsities. And as mentioned on Lawrence O’Donnell, it’s likely any guests who dissent won’t be allowed back on. But my point with this essay is to point out that so many — even guests on Russian state-run media — cannot hide their bleak outlook at Putin’s future.
