Even Rand Paul has had enough of this crap

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Senator Rand Paul is a particularly despicable person whose “libertarian” anti-government beliefs nearly always just happen to coincide with benefiting the wealthy, the racists, the extremists, and the deranged. But once in a blue moon, Rand finds himself on the correct side of an issue, if only for the wrong reasons, or only by coincidence. This appears to be one of those rare times.

Donald Trump has his DHS henchmen out there rounding up peaceful protesters in places like Portland and taking them away in unmarked cars – and he’s threatening to expand these kidnappings to other cities. As Palmer Report has been pointing out for days, Trump will only get away with this if we cower, and take the position Trump is going to magically get away with it. Whenever we fiercely push back against Trump on things like this, he usually backs down.

The good news is that Rand Paul is apparently on our side on this issue. Today he tweeted: “We cannot give up liberty for security. Local law enforcement can and should be handling these situations in our cities but there is no place for federal troops or unidentified federal agents rounding people up at will.”

Rand Paul’s motivations for taking this position are irrelevant. The question of whether he can be “trusted” is irrelevant. The bottom line is that his interests happen to line up with ours on this one issue, and that’s good thing. Rand Paul is openly putting pressure on Donald Trump to back down on this particular issue. That’s a signal for us to push back against Trump on this one even harder.
