Paul Ryan is best known as the guy who kept failing upward in politics, until he came face to face with Donald Trump and then decided to go home. Ryan is a coward who couldn’t bring himself to stand up to a criminal president from his own party. He’s also the kind of creep who has since joined the board of illegitimate news channel Fox News. But now Ryan, who is no dummy, says Trump is finished.

Paul Ryan is now using his powerful new position at Fox News to urge the network to shift its coverage under the presumption that Donald Trump is going down, according to a lengthy new expose from Vanity Fair. It’s not clear that everyone at the network is going to listen to him, but this same expose says that even Trump’s lackey Sean Hannity is privately worried about how bad the Ukraine scandal is for Trump.

To give you an idea of how much of an unapologetic coward Paul Ryan still is, this quote about him from the Vanity Fair piece sticks out like a sore thumb: “Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it.” That’s right, Paul Ryan doesn’t believe that when he was Speaker of the House – the third highest ranking person in the United States – that he had any power to do anything about Trump. Okay, whatever.

The bottom line is that for all his many failings, Paul Ryan generally seems to grasp which way the wind is blowing. He ran away from the House partly because he knew that the Democrats were going to win the majority, impeachment was going to happen, Donald Trump’s scandals were going to be exposed, and it was going to implode the Republican Party. So it’s notable that Ryan now thinks it’s all over for Trump. If nothing else, Ryan seems to know when to cut and run.
