Donald Trump just proved he’s somehow even dumber than we thought
Donald Trump has managed to spend his entire life getting away with financial crimes, assaults against women, and other felonies. One would think Trump must be pretty talented at this kind of evil, because you don’t survive a fifty-year crime spree by sheer luck. But it turns out Trump is really, really, really bad at this whole political crime thing – to the point that we’re stunned he made it this far in life.
Let’s say you rob a bank in broad daylight and everyone knows you did it, but no one can prove it. So you stash all the evidence in a warehouse, and you hope no one ever finds it. Then you go on to rob another bank, and this time no one outside your own inner circle even knows it happened. So this time you take the evidence and you stash it in the same exact warehouse?
It’s easy to see why this plan isn’t just dumb, it’s catastrophically dumb. If the people investigating you for the first bank robbery find their way to your warehouse, they’ll find out you also robbed another bank. And if word of your second bank robbery happens to leak out, it’ll lead the investigators to the proof that you robbed the first bank. Yet this is precisely what Donald Trump did when he hid the evidence of his 2016 election conspiracy with Russia, and the evidence of his 2020 election conspiracy with Ukraine, on the same secret server.
What’s odd here is that Donald Trump seemingly got this far in his life of crime by compartmentalizing his crimes. He defrauded a number of different banks. He laundered money through a number of different properties. But when he graduated from financial scandals to treason scandals, he decided to take all the evidence against him, put it in the same place, and wrap it up with a little bow on top. This is dumb beyond words.
