Poor, Poor Kevin McCarthy. In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s shocking federal indictment, there are winners, and there are losers. Kevin McCarthy is definitely a loser. Kev was already on thin ice because of his Debt ceiling issues. The GOP turned on him because they were pissed President Biden got it done. And faster than you could say, “Kev’s in trouble,” whispers started about kicking him out of the speakership.

And then chaos erupted on the House floor, as the crazy wing of the party basically held the House floor hostage. So, all in all, it hasn’t a good week for Kev. And it might just have gotten worse. There is a certain person who has suggested himself as a good replacement for Kevin McCarthy.

This person is mean. This person is unsavory. This person is deeply, DEEPLY hair-challenged. This person is Matt Gaetz. That’s the way to do it, Matt! With friends like you, one certainly doesn’t need enemies, no?

Gaetz was responding to a report that Kev had lost the trust of the House Republicans. And then Gaetz offered himself for speaker, saying he’d definitely do a good job. “In the House, I’d make a great leader!” Uh-oh, Kev. This is how it starts, you know. First a whisper, then some chatter, and then — well, you know.

Speaker Gaetz? I doubt it. Gaetz does not have the votes at this time to be made speaker. However, he is likely not the only one licking their lips at the thought of taking over from Kevin.

If I were Kevin McCarthy (and thank goodness I’m not), I’d watch my back over the next few weeks or so. In the meantime, Kev is likely saying: “Et tu, Gaetz? There just might be many more “Et tu’s” where that came from.
