The real reason Donald Trump is escalating his evil: he’s running out of time and he knows it

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3360 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

If you were to look at the events of today out of context, you might be left to conclude that Donald Trump has succeeded in taking over, and that his illegitimate occupation of the White House is now cemented in place. But on a day like this, when the American fabric is more tattered than ever, it’s crucial to look at why Trump is escalating his evil antics: it’s because even he knows what’s about to happen next.

Outside of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his own team, there are two people with the most informed and detailed understanding of what all is going on behind the scenes of the Trump-Russia investigation: the Senate Intel Committee’s Chairman Richard Burr, and its Vice Chairman Mark Warner. Over the weekend, Warner bragged in private that Mueller is about to start dropping several hammers. Burr hasn’t bothered to push back, despite being a Republican, because he knows what Warner has said is correct.

But you don’t have to be Warner or Burr to see, in general terms, what’s about to happen. The Paul Manafort trial is set to begin next month, and Mueller will be using it to put Donald Trump on trial by default. He’ll also be using the trial to push several Trump-Russia players into cutting plea deals, right around the time he subpoenas them to testify at Manafort’s trial. This comes even as Mueller’s grand jury proceedings against the likes of Roger Stone are nearing the indictment and arrest phase, and Mueller’s colleagues at the SDNY are about to either flip Michael Cohen or arrest him.

And that’s just what we know about, the isolated stuff that’s made it to the surface.. Take all the rest of Mueller’s treasure trove of evidence against Trump, the stuff that even the likes of Burr and Warner may not yet have been briefed on, and it’s clear that there’s a tidal wave coming against Donald Trump very soon. No matter who’s in charge of Congress, or what policy victories the Supreme Court is handing Trump right now, this is going to be the kind of devastating wide scale decimation that no presidency can survive. The people who think Trump is going to survive this are the same people who, back in 1974, misinterpreted Richard Nixon’s escalating desperation moves as a sign that he was going to survive.

Donald Trump is escalating his antics right now because he knows he’s out of time, and he has nothing to lose by throwing everything at the wall. That makes him more dangerous than ever. It also makes him more prone to mistakes, and more vulnerable, than ever. The job of the Resistance is to keep ramping up the protest and activism against him, to force him to keep playing some degree of defense until Mueller can finish him off.
