Donald Trump’s attempted attack on Elizabeth Warren goes bizarrely wrong for him
Donald Trump was having a really bad go of it on Sunday evening, to the point that he had a fairly rare evening Twitter meltdown to supplement his usual morning Twitter meltdown. Part of his tirade was aimed directly at Senator Elizabeth Warren. Trump was as racist about it as usual, but this time the whole thing went bizarrely wrong for him.
Trump decided to belatedly make a big deal out of the video Elizabeth Warren posted to announce her presidential campaign. It was mainly just her drinking a beer in her kitchen, joined by her husband. But to Trump, that was an opportunity for a random racist jab, so he posted this tweet along with her video:
“If Elizabeth Warren, often referred to by me as Pocahontas did this commercial from Bighorn or Wounded Knee instead of her kitchen, with her husband dressed in full Indian garb, it would have been a smash!” But then either Trump or one of his handlers decided that there was something wrong with this tweet, and quickly deleted it.
It turns out Trump and/or his people didn’t think twice about the racist nature of the tweet, or the fact that it was completely witless. The entire offensive tweet was posted again later in the evening, with every word the same, but with a comma added after “Pocahontas.” This led everyone to simply make fun of him for it, and whatever ridiculous point he was trying to make, it was completely lost in the process. But he wasn’t done.
Donald Trump is always willing to double down or even triple down on his biggest screw-ups, so he then posted this tweet: “Best line in the Elizabeth Warren beer catastrophe is, to her husband, “Thank you for being here. I’m glad you’re here” It’s their house, he’s supposed to be there!” Wait, what? Warren made a joke, and it went right over this humorless nitwit’s head. Why was Trump even tweeting about this video two weeks after it was posted? The whole thing is bizarre, even by his standards.
