Elijah Cummings spells out what he’s about to do to Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings has a long and influential history in the House of Representatives, but he’s most broadly known for having tried to put lying sack of crap Trey Gowdy in his place during the GOP’s fraudulent email/Benghazi hearings aimed at sabotaging Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Now the tables are turned, as Gowdy has left Congress in disgrace, and Cummings is the new Chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

This means Elijah Cummings is now in position to launch investigations into any and all of Donald Trump’s scandals, because by definition, the House Oversight Committee has jurisdiction to examine everything the Executive Branch does. Cummings won’t run every investigation, as some of Trump’s scandals are more suited to be investigated by Adam Schiff’s House Intel Committee, or Jerry Nadler’s House Judiciary Committee, or Maxine Waters’ House Financial Services Committee, for instance. But Cummings is spelling out what he’s about to take on.

Here’s what Elijah Cummings posted online after officially becoming the House Oversight Committee Chairman: “I am humbled and honored to be the next Chairman of the primary investigative body of Congress. The American people spoke clearly in this election. They voted for the checks and balances that are mandated by the Constitution, and they voted for greater transparency and accountability in government. My priority will be to restore rigorous, responsible, and fact-based oversight while focusing on issues that affect the American people every single day. I hope we can exercise the powers of the Oversight Committee in a bipartisan way to do what we all swore to do less than 24 hours ago—fulfill our duty to uphold the Constitution and serve as a truly independent check on the Executive Branch.”

Elijah Cummings is a savvy political figure, and he’s not going to put all of his cards on the table just yet, where Donald Trump can see them. But his words above make clear that he’s going after Trump in the most aggressive manner possible. Of course the big difference between what Gowdy did to Clinton, and what Cummings is about to do to Trump, is that Cummings cares about the truth.
