The real reason Elaine Chao is considering resigning from Donald Trump’s cabinet tonight

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. Now that Donald Trump has gone full blown terrorist in a way that resulted in a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol Building, forces are aligning against him. Cabinet members are already reportedly discussing the 25th Amendment. Now one of those cabinet members is considering resigning.

NBC News is reporting that Trump’s Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao is considering resigning tonight. This is notable for a few reasons. First, she would be the highest profile resignation thus far this evening, after various lower level White House officials have already resigned. Second, Chao would be resigning ahead of a possible 25th Amendment vote. Third, Chao is Mitch McConnell’s wife.

Elaine Chao was about to be out of a job in two weeks anyway. So it feels like she’s considering resigning so that she doesn’t have to participate in a 25th Amendment vote one way or the other, which would save McConnell from any political blowback over the issue. Of course she could just be resigning because the ship is sinking – but Chao and McConnell are usually bigger schemers than that.
