Early polling is looking strong for Kamala Harris

Much has been made of Kamala Harris raising $81 million in just 24 hours of her candidacy for president – roughly the same number of votes she won with Joe Biden in the 2020 election against Donald Trump. It makes for a feel good story as we approach general election season with the Democratic Party coalescing around a strong candidate thoroughly vetted by one of the most consequential (and transformational) presidents we’ve had in decades. There’s another important bit of data to look at as Democrats are warming up to Vice President Harris as the candidate for president: Polling data has also heavily come around in her favor.

Polls from Morning Consult and Quinnipiac have showed a gain of four points in a theoretical matchup against Donald Trump – bringing the race back within the margin of error. There are a few caveats to bear in mind, although some work in our favor. One was that the poll, which showed over two-thirds of Democrats showing support for Harris as the nominee, took some of its data from before President Biden officially bowed out, meaning there are still ways in which Harris can draw up the margins.

One thing is clear – the race is still very much competitive, and Republicans are not particularly pleased at how things have been shaken up. This means it’s time to volunteer on behalf of making Vice President Harris into President-elect Harris come Nov 5 and give her a Democratic trifecta in the House and Senate!
