Circling the drain

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On Thursday, Judge Engoron took formal steps in the process of freezing Donald Trump’s assets, driving home the reality that Trump really is about to lose everything. Even as this was playing out, Rudy Giuliani’s criminal defense attorney quit (again), Mike Lindell’s attorneys quit, and Sidney Powell lost her last ditch effort to stall her criminal trial.

This came as House Republicans were leaking dirt about Matt Gaetz in an apparent preamble toward expulsion, and George Santos’ former campaign treasurer flipped on him.

Donald Trump promised back in 2016 that he’d “drain the swamp” in terms of political corruption. Sure enough, by entering politics, Trump has bankrupted himself, and sent himself and several of his political allies to prison. This certainly wasn’t what Trump meant, but he certainly ended up draining the swamp.

Of course even as Donald Trump and Trump world go into full scale collapse, House Republicans are gearing up to try to elect yet another extremist monster as Speaker of the House. There’s always another right wing monster attempting to crawl out of the swamp, and so there’s always another battle to be fought. But that’s been going on in America for about 250 years now.

If nothing else Donald Trump managed to convince a whole lot of right wing swamp monsters, who had been hiding in the shadows and doing tremendous damage to the nation while keeping a low profile, to step out into the spotlight for all to see. And that’s why so many of these swamp monsters are now going down with him. Whatever gets the job done.
