Down to the wire

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

One of the things I always loved about President Obama was his ability to be himself. At times he was funny and extremely personable, but when it came to his work in the White House, he became deadly serious. Who, however, can ever forget him singing Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together?” Those are the types of things that made him human. If we have all worked hard enough, we can experience that again with Vice President Kamala Harris. She made a surprise visit to Saturday Night Live and pretended to be Maya Rudolf’s reflection in the mirror. It was hilarious as VP Harris and Rudolf made a whole skit out of rhyming things with “Momala.” If people still say they don’t “know” Harris, they’re not paying attention.

Like Brian Tyler Cohen, I have been trying not to read too much into polls. They change from day to day and don’t really give the real story of what’s going on. According to Brian, however, Ann Seltzer from Iowa is always “bang on” in her predictions. She predicted the outcome of the 2016 election, even as people said “no way” to Trump beating Clinton. Cohen jumped on YouTube for a “short” to tell us that Seltzer’s newly released poll shows VP Harris up 47% to Trump’s 44%. Yes, that’s within the typical margin of error, but Iowa? Really? Nate Silver called this poll “shocking,” and he also said it “took guts” to release it. I don’t know about you, but I would never have expected Harris to be up by any amount in Iowa of all places. If this remains true, we can be confident that we will elect Harris on Tuesday; however, don’t stop working. As Brian said, this is motivation to keep us working hard up to the proverbial bitter end. The thing to keep in mind is that Trump supporters don’t typically participate in polling, so our work for VP Harris is far from over.

Fortunately, it appears that minority voters have moved away from Trump. Spike Lee visited Atlanta again this weekend and told Black men: “Don’t do it.” Lee elaborated: “I don’t know how these young brothers in their right minds could think that this guy has in his heart what’s best for you.” According to Newsweek, Trump’s Black support has dropped from a high of 15% to 8%. It should be zero, but some folks are hell bent on voting against their own interests. Harris’s percentage share of the Black vote has now outpaced Biden’s 2020 percentage to 87%.

Republicans, meanwhile, are set to claim fraud if VP Harris wins. Tim Scott appeared with Dana Bash on “State of the Nation,” and he refused to answer her question of whether Republicans will accept the results if Trump loses. You could tell Bash was getting very frustrated with Scott when she said: “Oh, come on, Senator.” Steve Bannon is, of course, out of jail and giving Trump the same advice to declare victory regardless. Think of what a better country and world it will be once these liars are out of the picture.
