Down goes Parler
We don’t ever report on what’s being said on far right social network Parler, because it all reads like one big violent conspiracy theory to us, not worthy of being given any attention. But here’s what is notable. Now that Donald Trump has been banned from Twitter, his natural landing spot would be Parler, and it’s in the process of being dismantled tonight.
This evening Apple gave Parler twenty-four hours to provide a comprehensive plan for dealing with the dangerously violent insanity that’s posted on its network, or the Parler app will be removed from the App Store. There’s no chance Parler will hit this deadline, so as of tomorrow, iPhone and iPad users will no longer be able to download the Parler app. Shortly after this news broke, Google went ahead and removed the Parler app from its Google Play store, meaning Android users can no longer download the Parler app.
None of this prevents people from simply going to the Parler website in order to participate in the social network. And of course the people who have already download the app on their phone or tablet can still use it. But this is still a crushing blow to the Parler platform, and it’ll sharply decrease what little relevance Parler had to begin with.
