John Eastman is set to stand criminal trial alongside Donald Trump in Fulton County, and if Eastman is convicted he’s going to prison. In the meantime Eastman is being dismantled in other ways.

Today a legal panel ruled in favor of John Eastman’s disbarment. Disbarment is a lengthy multi-step process, and legal experts say he isn’t technically considered disbarred until he runs out of appeals. But functionally speaking, after today’s ruling, he might as well be disbarred.

Why does this matter? It doesn’t, in the sense that Eastman is very likely going to prison anyway. There’s not much work to be had for lawyers who are currently in prison. But it matters symbolically, in the sense that someone who tried to overthrow the government shouldn’t be allowed to practice law in a government courtroom.

But remember, disbarment is small potatoes compared to what else Eastman is facing. He’s a few months away from standing criminal trial in Fulton County. Eastman is also listed as a co-conspirator in Jack Smith’s federal criminal probe, meaning he could end up criminally indicted in that probe as well.
