Double dare you…
If the media wasn’t so willing to go to bat for Republicans (something they do largely out of fear and a desire to not appear overly partisan), they’d have a hard time selling impeachment – either this time or 25 years ago. Things are largely the same in both cases – although this time, they have a much harder time actually coming up with something concrete that President Biden should be impeached for.
The other problem is that while House Republicans were largely united in going after President Clinton, a whole lot of Republicans in moderate districts could be out of a job come 2024 if they participate in this foolishness and House Speaker McCarthy is only going in on this because he doesn’t want to lose his seat to someone even more demented and less qualified for the job than he is.
The good news is that despite the media doing everything they can to gin up ratings with both left and right-leaning viewers, Democrats are hardly taking it seriously as they take the messaging into their own hands. One example is Sen. John Fetterman of PA, who mockingly referred to the House Freedom Caucus as Team America and dared Republicans to bring impeachment if they can even get the votes.
This is exactly the way we should respond to right-wing chicanery when it happens. They have the burden of proof and have yet to produce even a reason for why we should be wasting time on impeachment proceedings when we should be talking about how to fund the government for the rest of the year. This is why they can’t be trusted with power and why we need to vote them out in 2024.
