Don’t underestimate Chuck Schumer on this

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

So many people underestimate Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. I see it all the time. Many say he isn’t aggressive enough. Some say he can’t win against Mitch the Turtle. Over and over like a spinning Ferris wheel that refuses to stop, the comments whirl about.

Well — it would appear that the kitten has just shown its claws — big time. Leader Schumer has said he will not stand for it if Republicans continue to obstruct voting rights legislation. He will force a vote, and this vote will be on changing the rules of the Senate.

He has given January 17 as the date Republicans must make up their minds. “The fight for the ballot is as old as the Republic,” Schumer said. “Over the coming weeks, the Senate will once again consider how to perfect this union and confront the historic challenges facing our Democracy.”

“We hope our Republican colleagues change course and work with us.”

“But if they do not, the Senate will debate and consider changes to the Senate Rules on or before January 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to protect the foundation of our democracy; free and fair elections.”

I like this letter. Palmer Report has repeatedly said voting rights would be a focus, and now they are. I do expect the insurrection party to do everything they can to obstruct because that’s who they are — they’re obstructionists. But we are stronger and more intelligent than them, and we won’t stop until voting rights legislation is passed.
