Those who track these things are now saying that voter turnout in Virginia today is up in both Democratic-leaning and Republican-leaning areas. That doesn’t tell us much about who’s going to win. But it does tell us that turnout is more important than ever.

Win or lose in Virginia tonight, the 2022 midterms will be all about turnout. That means we can’t spend the next year whining about how the Democrats are imperfect; all that does is tell voters that they shouldn’t bother voting Democrat.

Instead we have to spend the next year convincing folks that the Democrats are worth turning out to vote for. If you consider yourself a political activist, this is your job. We don’t have time for folks who are only “activists” because they think the Democratic Party personally owes it to them to spend every day making their socks roll up and down. No, this is a time for actual activists, who understand that their job is to fight and win battles and get more Democrats elected – not sit around and whine.

It's been a tough week, a tough month, a tough year. For all of us. But the fight goes on. Because we know how important this is. Because we care. Because we're the ones who fight. It's you and me.
