Donald Trump’s time in the barrel

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

What a shock. Donald Trump has been caught in more lies. What would be more shocking would be to hear him tell the truth for a change, but the man has no concept of the truth. Judge David O. Carter has called Trump on his behavior more than once, having publicly called Trump out on his criminal activities. It was back in March that Judge Carter wrote: “Based on the evidence, the Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021” (CNN). We should not then be surprised that he continues to rule against Trump, as reported by CNN.

Carter has ordered that emails between Trump and John Eastman be released to House investigators. He doubled down on his belief that Trump committed crimes in his attempts to block certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. In his ruling, Judge Carter wrote: “The Court finds that these emails are sufficiently related to and in furtherance of a conspiracy to default the United States,” which is one of the charges Glenn Kirschner believes the DOJ will levy against Trump. The emails that Judge Carter released will certainly be of interest to Fulton County DA Fani Willis, as they relate to Trump’s lies in Georgia in attempting to overturn the election in that state.

Trump basically lied under oath in the suit he filed in Georgia. He signed a verification indicating that false numbers he provided were true. A verification is as effective as an affidavit, and both are sworn instruments used in courts across the country. In signing that document, Trump certified to a court of law that his statements were true. To make matters worse, Trump signed yet another verification about the same false numbers, even though Eastman made Trump aware that the numbers were false. Eastman wrote an email to that effect on December 30, 2022, yet Trump went ahead and filed a lawsuit referencing those same numbers that, according to Eastman’s email: “he has since been made aware that some of the allegations (and evidence proffered by experts) has been inaccurate. For him to sign a new verification with that knowledge (and incorporation by reference) would not be accurate.” In other words, even Eastman called Trump what he is-a liar.

As a result, Judge Carter found that Trump and Eastman “knowingly misrepresented voter fraud numbers in federal court,” and as a result, the House Select Committee has the right to include those falsifications and correspondence relating to them in its investigation. As everyone knew at the time, Trump’s lawsuits were frivolous on their faces. He knew damned well that he lost the election. Even his aides and others close to Trump told he had lost, yet he continues his campaign of fraud and false information to the detriment of U.S. citizens who believe in and want to participate in our form of democracy. That is a crime, and it is past time for Donald Trump to pay.
