Donald Trump’s second E. Jean Carroll trial is already off to a disastrous start for him
E. Jean Carroll already won her first civil trial against Donald Trump, to the tune of $5 million. Today marked the start of her second civil trial against Trump. Keep in mind that this is not an appeal and it’s not a do-over. This is an entire second trial. If Carroll wins this trial she’ll win new damages on top of the $5 million. With the way things are going today, it looks like that will very likely happen.
Trump was represented by Joe Tacopina in his first Carroll trial, but Trump and Tacopina have parted ways. Alina Habba is taking the lead in this trial, and thus far it’s going very poorly for her. After Judge Kaplan ruled against Habba on something, and she kept arguing, he basically told her to shut up.
Meanwhile Donald Trump keeps posting more and more ugly attacks against E. Jean Carroll on social media. Carroll’s team is already bringing this up in court, and pointing to seeking even more damages over it. So no, Trump isn’t “getting away” with his ongoing attacks on Carroll. Instead it’s more like a running meter of damages. And this is only day one.
