Donald Trump’s no-win situation
Do NOT believe Trump’s videotaped message about abortion being left to the States. He doesn’t mean it. In fact, I once said the key to really understanding Donald Trump is to believe the opposite of what he says. There is a reason Trump put out that video. He’s scared.
Newsweek reports that one expert source has said that Donald Trump was “pushed into this position in the face of tight polling numbers.” Indeed. Trump’s polling numbers are getting worse and worse. Apparently, Trump and team are afraid of WOMEN and whom these women will vote for, so once again, they’re lying to the American people.
What Trump does NOT get is — he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Allow me to explain. IT WILL NOT MATTER what position Trump takes on abortion. He WILL piss off many of the antichoice people. He already has with his former VP Mike Pence, saying Trump’s message felt like a “slap in the face.”
A brief word on Pence. This felt like a slap in the face. This he speaks out about. But when MAGA wanted to see him hanged, his little trap stays firmly shut. The thing is, Trump wont gain voters from women this in any way. How could he? EVERY TIME abortion has been on the ballot – we win. EVERY. SINGLE TIME. BAR. NONE.
What this little lie of a video WILL do, though, is lose Trump some of the antichoice votes. Not that they will vote for Biden, but they may just stay home—or write in someone else. This is how a paradox works. This is what lying to your voters DOES. It turns into a damned if you, damned if you don’t situation.
Trump can’t lie his way out of this one. All this stupid video did was make things worse for him, not better. In typical Trump fashion, though, he is unlikely to grasp that fact.
