Now that the smoke is starting to clear a bit in the Donald Trump – Pete Hegseth national security scandal, a scapegoat is emerging. The blame is being placed squarely on Trump’s National Security Adviser Mike Waltz for mistakenly adding a reporter from The Atlantic to a Signal chat discussing secret US war plans. Suffice it to say that Waltz isn’t responding well to the news.

Even as some Trump officials are admitting that the story is true, others like Hegseth are claiming that the Atlantic reporter made the whole thing up. Waltz is trying an even stupider strategy, in which he suggests that the Atlantic reporter somehow added himself to the Signal group. It’s pretty bad when Waltz had to preface this conspiracy theory by declaring “I’m not a conspiracy theorist.”

Even worse for Mike Waltz, no one else in the Trump regime seems to be going along with Waltz’s version of events. This suggests that Waltz has been shut out of any discussion among Trump regime members about how to get their story straight and cover this up. Then again, as incompetently as the Trump regime is handling this from top to bottom, it’s possible that none of these people are even trying to get their story straight.
