Donald Trump’s “mandate” is falling apart already
The golden threads that make up the sun’s rising on a new day, glowed that election year. For it was a mandate. It was an overwhelming victory. 332 electoral votes to 206. This was the Obama/Romney race. Obama won it decisively. He had a mandate.
I bring this up, my readers, because Donald Trump has not won a mandate. Indeed, his election numbers are under 50 percent. No mandate. He also has lost many battles before he even took office.
If one were to look at the Trump transition team’s “victories” objectively, one would be able to see that they’ve not had nearly as many victories as losses in the last few weeks. Cases in point:
– Matt Gaetz. He is out of our hair (no pun intended) and out of Congress.
– Pete Hegseth. Pete’s mother appeared on Fox to plead her son’s case. That’s not a victory. That is pathetic.
While I feel bad that Hegseth’s mom had to do this, I doubt it will change the dark cloud that hovers over Hegseth’s nomination. Reportedly, a number of senators are saying behind the scenes they are simply not comfortable voting for such a man.And you can bet MORE bad stories will come out about him.
No mandate.
Then, there are background checks. I am so pleased to tell you that the Trump team is allowing traditional background checks to proceed via the FBI. This is a win for us. Trump had fought tooth and nail, like a slovenly criminal would be expected to do, to bypass the FBI and have his own team of misfits do the background checks. Only he didn’t get his way. It’s a pleasure to write these words.
I see the VICTORIES as a necessary part of the political puzzle. We need to talk about them when they happen. Why? Because they help build morale, they let people know we CAN win and fight Trump.
Since the election, some have seemed world-wearied, carrying the weight of all things political on their backs. I ask you to let a crack of sunlight peak through the corridors and into your psyches because everything I listed above is only the beginning.
We will have other victories, tangible victories that will allow this writer to effortlessly release triumphant drops of ink from her pen to write about ALL of them.. You have to realize that, and I hope you do.
Please let yourselves know – and understand — that not only does Donald Trump have no mandate, but neither do Maga Republicans. The horizons ahead of us will, at times, be foggy. We will not win ALL battles. But we will win many. We will win enough. Because Donald Trump has no mandate and just look at all we’ve won.
