Donald Trump’s losing hand

Let’s talk about losing hands. Tom Homan most definitely played a LOSING hand this weekend. Allow me to explain. Ah — we have moved on to the no-comment portion of the Trump presidency. Just as a little aside, when someone says “no comment,” they usually mean, “I can’t say anything because I know I’m wrong.” Such is the case here.

Tom Homan, the border czar and a damn lunatic of one too, appeared on ABC, where Johnathan Karl predictably asked him about Kilmar Abrego Garcia. And asked – and asked — and asked. “I can’t comment.” “If he wanted the guy returned, he could get him returned, right?” “I’m not going to comment.”

Uh-oh. This is a bad, BAD strategy. I’ll tell you why. It makes the administration look bad; It makes them look incompetent. Of course, the fact that they ARE incompetent is beside the point. When making a national TV appearance, the last thing one wants to do is to show their hand. It’s like a poker match. Keep your face expressionless, no “tells,” and dutifully play the game.

No such luck here. You see, by responding: “NO COMMENT” to every damn question asked, what he is really saying is: “I have no hand to play! I have nothing! I KNOW I have nothing, so I’ll sit this one out.” I’m sure you would agree it’s not a good look.

It makes them look base, amateurish, and like they don’t know what they’re doing. It makes them look like they’re hiding something, which of course they are; only what they’re hiding is NOT a winning hand, but what they have instead is jack shit.

So the Trump team is reduced to FOLDING — abandoning their own game, with mechanical garbage answers of “can’t comment.” One knows one is losing when one is reduced to fish status, “fish” being what they call losing players in poker terms. Tom Homan lost bigly in THIS little discussion. “No comment” is ALWAYS ALWAYS a losing hand.
