Donald Trump’s legal team hits the panic button
For all of the doomsday proclamations about how Donald Trump’s criminal trials would somehow never happen because he could just magically delay them all to his liking, the reality is that Trump’s first criminal trial is going to start in just five days. Trump did everything he could to try to stop it, but it’s happening anyway.
We keep seeing this play out, as Trump’s lawyers make one last ditch nonsense filing after another, and those filings keep getting rejected in real time. None of these filings are doing anything to delay the April 15th start date at all.
So now Trump’s attorneys are hitting the panic button by filing an “emergency” request to have the appeals court to stop the trial and remove the trial judge. When you’re at a point where you’re filing emergency requests, you’ve lost. Such tactics don’t work, and they don’t delay anything.
But there’s really nothing else for Trump’s legal team to do at this point. The trial is going to begin in five days no matter what, and there’s nothing Trump’s lawyers can do to stop it. But they don’t want to have to explain to Trump why they’re sitting on their hands, so they’re doing what essentially amounts to busywork. Trump is going on trial.
