Donald Trump’s lawyers are making a HUGE mistake today in his criminal trial
Until today Donald Trump’s attorneys in his criminal trial had been acting like, well, attorneys. They certainly haven’t been doing the best job, but they’ve at least been doing the thing that attorneys are supposed to do.
Then Trump leaked to the media that he was highly dissatisfied with his legal team in this trial because they weren’t being aggressive enough. Now today we’re seeing the fallout from that – and it’s not going well.
Trump’s attorneys have spent this morning cross examining Keith Davidson, the former attorney for Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. Instead of trying to poke holes in Davidson’s story, Trump’s attorneys are instead asking one question after another about people like Hulk Hogan. No, really.
This is a huge mistake. Trump’s attorneys have been going on and on for hours about nonsensical topics that the jurors know have nothing to do with this trial. The only thing these attorneys are doing is signaling to the jury that they’ve got nothing. The jury surely spent this cross examination tuning out, thinking about lunch, and concluding that they really don’t have to give any heed to anything else that the defense is going to say or do in this trial.
Donald Trump is getting what he wants. His defense attorneys are being “aggressive” and combative, just like he wanted. But all it’s doing is helping to ensure that Trump is getting convicted in this trial. Trump has been his own worst enemy for awhile, and now it’s coming to a head.
