Donald Trump’s lawyer may have just blown it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When Donald Trump’s lawyer Ron Fischetti baited Politico into running a headline yesterday which falsely asserted that New York prosecutors have decided against indicting Donald Trump, he probably thought he was being clever. He certainly tricked a number of people into believing that Trump is magically going to go free, perhaps including Trump himself. But it turns out Fischetti may have just blown it.

Here’s a tweet from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Signorelli today: “Fischetti’s media strategy of making fun of the contemplated charges from Manhattan DA and almost bating the DA to indict his client & charge more fulsomely is not one I would pursue. Ron had been a well respected trial attorney.”

There is every reason to expect that New York prosecutors are already on track to end up criminally indicting Donald Trump. But Signorelli is correct in that these media antics by Trump’s lawyer are almost forcing prosecutors to take more aggressive steps against Trump sooner, in order to regain control of the media narrative.

Donald Trump’s enablers are rarely helping him, and are usually instead just keeping him snowed so he’ll think they’re helping him, so he’ll keep them around. This appears to be yet another instance of that.
