Donald Trump’s latest unhinged filing in Fulton County criminal case is likely to backfire on him
It can make us crazy sometimes, wildly impatient, waiting for Donald Trump to be sent off to prison. And our day is arriving. Trump knows it’s arriving as well. In recent weeks, Trump’s desperation has been at a fever-pitch. It’s been an out-of-control landslide, as the debris that has tumbled from his mouth has taken on new desperation, rage and terror.
All of this is to be expected. This is the way Trump rolls. We see it every day, and the more afraid he is, the more likelihood that prison is heading ever closer. However, while we may have expected this from Trump, we certainly thought — or at least HOPED that his lawyers had better sense. Alas, it is not to be.
His lawyers seem to have been struck with the Trump foot-in-mouth disease that hits everyone who has the unhappy fate of getting tangled up with his royal madman. This week, Trump’s lawyer in the Georgia case made the stunning argument that Trump should be tried in 2029. I kid you not.
According to this (crazy) attorney, pursuing a court date now would be “election interference.” Then, of course, Trump would win the election, and he could NEVER be tried then! So 2029 is the EARLIEST date. This argument isn’t even a straw-man’s argument. It’s a crazy man’s argument. And the Judge will not go for it.
One cannot hide behind running for office to avoid prison. If they could, every rag-tag criminal walking the planet would be running for SOMETHING. There would be a shocking amount of criminals filing papers to run for elective office.
On MSNBC, a panel speculated that this insane argument could actually have the Georgia Judge speed UP the trial. Trump’s lawyers should know better than this, but they’re likely taking orders from Trump. Aren’t they embarrassed to look themselves in the mirror? At any rate, Trump will have his day in Georgia court well BEFORE 2029. What a silly suggestion!
