Donald Trump’s last stand just collapsed

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Even as it’s become more and more clear that Donald Trump is heading to prison and not the 2024 election, the entire media and pundit class (on the left and right) has tried to portray Trump as somehow being magically immune to all of that. Not only has the media portrayed Trump as being more dangerously powerful than ever, it’s insisted that Trump’s hold over the Republican Party is as strong as ever. But we just keep seeing proof that it’s not true.

On Saturday afternoon, Texas Republicans impeached Trump’s close ally Ken Paxton over Trump’s loud objections. On Saturday evening, House Republicans cut a Biden-friendly budget deal over Trump’s loud objections. You can see the pattern. Republicans no longer care what Trump wants, and they’re no longer particularly worried about his threats of retaliation.

Republican politicians always do whatever they think is selfishly best for themselves and their own career prospects. If they thought there were some chance that Trump would end up in power again, or even become relevant again, do you really think they’d be moving away from him like this?

Republican politicians are increasingly starting to selfishly move on from Trump because they know he’s going to prison anyway. Regardless of what might be coming out of their mouths, politicians speak with their actions. In that regard, what Republicans are now saying is that they know Trump is toast.
