Donald Trump’s inept team of fools is turning against itself already
The thing about Donald Trump’s disastrous decade long slog through politics is that most of his advisers and babysitters from his “heyday” have since gotten fired or arrested, or ran away screaming. At this point the people surrounding Trump are the very bottom of what’s left after you finish scraping the barrel.
Trump is fully senile and his 2024 campaign was an utter disaster. But since the media dishonestly handed Trump the 2024 election anyway, his small team of fools have to try to figure out how to govern in his cognitive absence. The thing is, they’re predictably turning on each other already.
Two of the people who reportedly have the most influence over Trump at this point are his longtime adviser Boris Epshteyn and his new best friend Elon Musk. But the two of them reportedly can’t get along at all, and are already at war with each other over Trump’s cabinet picks. With Trump being a dementia addled pushover, there’s no one to keep his sidekicks in line. And so Boris and Elon are now feuding in a way that’s spilling over into the media, which is always a recipe for disaster.
Axios says that Boris and Elon are feuding over Trump’s cabinet picks and just plain sick of each other already. It’s difficult to predict who will win this feud. Boris has managed to remain in Trump’s orbit for a decade, which is difficult to pull off. But he’s been criminally indicted in Arizona on state charges that Trump can’t pardon, which could make him vulnerable once he gets closer to trial. Elon seems to be Trump’s new flavor of the month, but Trump never remains loyal to anyone. In addition, Elon has become as mentally unstable as Trump is. And Trump’s dementia appears to be at a point where he’s going to side with whoever his failing brain decides to listen to on any given day.
But the upshot is that Trump’s remaining babysitters are inept idiots who are already getting into ugly feuds about which of them is going to get to make Trump’s decisions for him, and Trump is too far gone to show any leadership on the matter. This helps explain how Trump is making moves as stupid as securing the promise of recess appointments from the Republican Senate, only to blow it by making the kinds of uniquely bad appointments like Matt Gaetz who are giving the Senate pause.
In any case, this is only going to get worse. Trump is already blowing the transition period badly by making insane appointments and wasting his political muscle on trying to get them confirmed, even as his babysitters weaken Trump further by letting their power struggles spill over into the media in a way that makes Trump look asleep at the wheel.
