Donald Trump’s impeachment trial lawyers just bailed

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump had one heck of a time trying to find legal representation for his upcoming Senate impeachment trial. Then he finally managed to find two attorneys in South Carolina, thanks to their connection with Lindsey Graham. But now, according to CNN, they just bailed.

No reason has been given for this, beyond the claim that it was “mutual.” In general, there are a few different reasons why this could have happened. For one thing, not all lawyers want to represent a guy who’s obviously guilty of domestic terrorism. In addition, Trump is a mentally unstable client who is unlikely to follow his attorneys’ advice anyway. And of course Trump never pays people what he owes them for their services.

In any case, this means that Trump is now once again faced with trying to find a lawyer or law firm willing to sully itself by representing him in an impeachment trial where everyone already knows he’s guilty. The trial is expected to begin as soon as a week from now, so we’ll see what he comes up with. But this just keeps getting uglier for him by the minute.

Notably, this doesn’t portend well for Donald Trump once he inevitably faces criminal charges for inciting the U.S. Capitol domestic terrorist attack. If he can’t even find lawyers willing to represent him in an impeachment trial over the attack, how’s he going to find lawyers willing to represent him in a criminal trial over the attack?
