Donald Trump’s clipped wings

Donald Trump’s social media use is probably the most definitive thing about him. Even before he became president or entered the political arena for that matter, what he tweeted had some sizable consequences on the world stage. He wasn’t the first president to use Twitter, but no other presidents have had the same problematic impact on the country’s economy or national security whenever they sent a message in 140 characters or less.

The difference between Trump being president and Trump being the former guy, is that in the latter scenario, he hasn’t had the upper hand with a lot of his social media antics. Even after his ban from Twitter was lifted, his right-wing alternative startup crashed and burned within a short time.

He has incited a number of violent threats against the judges and attorneys handling his cases, which is why the judge in Fulton County felt the need to read him a list of restrictions concerning his use of social media by warning him against not just speaking out against anyone handling his case, but also the community at large – either directly or indirectly – and even his own codefendants, who are already beginning to turn on each other.

The guidelines are largely a question of when, not if, the former guy violates these restrictions and how soon before they turn on him, actions that could also determine how judges will act in his other cases that are currently underway. Either way, Donald Trump never wastes an opportunity to let us know how reckless and unfit he is for the presidency – and this should be all the motivation we need to keep him out of power come 2024.
