Donald Trump’s burn bags
There is a term that one should familiarize themselves with. This term is “burn bags.” Obviously, this isn’t a term we often see when reading about politics. But we might just be seeing a great deal more of it in the days to come.
Let’s start at the beginning. We all know about Trump’s addiction to ripping apart valuable documents. However, apparently, this habit seemed to be all-consuming to the madman.
Per the Washington Post, Trump was admonished repeatedly – to stop ripping, tearing, shredding, and destroying historical items of value. But like a rabid raccoon, he only spiraled more out of control.
To quote the Washington Post:”The documents including briefings and schedules, articles and letters, memos both sensitive and mundane. He ripped paper into quarters with two big, clean strokes — or occasionally more vigorously, into smaller scraps.”
Wow. Such a great deal of paper wasted. And not very environmentally friendly either. But there is a great deal more. Apparently, Trump would leave the paper scraps just about everywhere.
In the trash — check.
On the desk – double-check.
On Air Force One — triple check.
The Trump staff was engulfed in a sea of paper that evidently was everywhere. And many urged — and begged the man to please stop his excessive, paper-waste. But alas, all their pleas were to no avail.
And Trump’s paper mashing was so out of control that staff members were forced to implement special paper protocols to deal with the ever-growing mess of paper pollution.
Sources told the Washington Post they were “unclear” just how many documents were ruined but that it might be “Hundreds of documents, if not more.” And now we come to the “burn bags.” Reportedly, one protocol in dealing with all of this was to put the paper into “burn bags” and — you guessed it — destroy them.
I do feel for the staff. Imagine the odor. And imagine the senseless, moronic pile of paper waste. Who knows what was in some of those burn bags. We will likely never know. But the good news is that so much WAS preserved and is now in the hands of the January 6 committee. And unlike Trump, the committee does know how to preserve documents, and I’m sure it won’t be long until we all know what exactly is in them.
