Donald Trump’s biggest liability

Republicans now govern with a trifecta on the federal level, and we are once again reminded of why they always manage to do things poorly – even when they had a clear (and horrific looking) blueprint of how they were going to carry things out. They expected that people would do one of two things: Either cave and decide that the GOP is going to get away with whatever horrible thing they want to do (and this is largely why the party never moved on from Donald Trump over a decade later), or people would blame Democrats for not fighting sufficiently against whatever it is the Republicans were going to do – and therefore treat the plan as an inevitability.
The latter is largely why we keep hearing this nonsense about how “Democrats need to do something!!!” – it keeps the GOP from ever really being held accountable, since people feel that pushing back against Republican reps or senators is a waste of time.
What we should be asking is why aren’t Republicans doing anything? Particularly it should be asked when a clown like Elon Musk who was never elected to anything and isn’t even heading the agency he was supposedly going to be put in charge of – is illegally accessing data and firing employees he isn’t actually responsible for. This is what Sen. Chris Van Hollen decided to do when he did the Sunday morning talk shows – asking why is Elon in charge when no one even likes him?
As the budget fight goes to the House, Democrats are asking what the GOP is doing with a guy who’s recklessly gutting agencies without even looking to see what they do – with the threat that a government shutdown will be on their shoulders unless they can rein him in. Musk may have helped the GOP win, but he’s become a massive liability to the party in a very short time.
