Donald Trump’s attorney Christina Bobb just made a major unforced error
It’s easy, and perhaps a little simplistic, to refer to Donald Trump’s lawyers as inept. The evidence is so overwhelmingly against Trump that any lawyer would look like an idiot trying to defend him in any of his four criminal cases. It’s too easy to make fun of them.
Every effort they make to defend the indefensible and manufacture spurious reasons for delaying Trump’s trial dates is open to mockery no matter how solemnly rendered or technically correct. Trump is guilty and everyone with a brain knows it. Nobody knows it better than his lawyers.
But Trump lawyer Christina Bobb just admitted that he might be guilty and she did it on camera. In her zeal to follow Trump’s orders, Bobb made a truly spectacular unforced error when she said, “The President is elected by the entire nation, and it should be the entire nation who determines who they want for president, whether they’re guilty of insurrection or not, it’s up to the people.”
I’m sure Ms Bobb never intended to entertain the possibility that Donald Trump is guilty of insurrection, but it appears she went ahead and did just that. Once again, for emphasis, she said, “whether they’re guilty of insurrection or not.”
Of course, this little gaff of hers is all over the news as it should be. But there’s a subtlety here that many commentators in the mainstream media are missing. I’d like to draw your attention to the final clause of the quote, brothers and sisters. It’s where she says, “it’s up to the people.”
No it’s not. Whether or not Donald Trump is eligible to be elected president of the United States is up to the Congress of the United States and no one else. Donald Trump participated in an insurrection against the United States. We know he did because we all saw it on TV, and Christina Bobb has just officially mooted it as a possibility. Trump is therefore disqualified from being president — ever — unless and until a supermajority in the House of Representatives says otherwise, and it’s NOT “up to the people.” End of discussion.
What’s more, it is not up to “the entire nation” whether or not Trump was ever president in the first place. If it were otherwise then Hillary Clinton would now be finishing her second term as president and “MAGA” would be an entirely unknown acronym.
The entire nation voted for Clinton in 2016. They voted for her by a majority of 3.5 million people. Unfortunately, it was up to the Electoral College that Trump “won.” Again, Trump is not eligible to run for dogcatcher now, let alone president, and he will remain ineligible until a supermajority in the House says otherwise.
So let’s stop with all this bullshit about letting the “people” decide if Trump is president or not. Christina Bobb may have so much contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law to suggest otherwise, but she’s wrong, and anyone who bothers to read the 14th Amendment of the Constitution can clearly see that she is wrong. And, as ever, ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, comrades and friends, stay safe.
