Donald Trump went there tonight – and he’ll pay for it tomorrow
Donald Trump violated the gag order in his criminal trial by attacking the witnesses just before the trial began. This prompted Alvin Bragg to ask the judge to fine Trump for that violation, and to threaten Trump with thirty days in jail for any future violations. The judge set a hearing date for Bragg’s filing. But then after court ended on Tuesday, Trump attacked a witness again. And now, tonight, Trump has done something even stupider.
On his social media site tonight, Trump posted this quote from Fox News stooge Jesse Watters: “They are catching undercover Liberal Activists lying to the Judge in order to get on the Trump Jury.”
This means that Trump is now directly attempting to intimidate jurors. That’s about the biggest cardinal sin you can commit in a situation like this. We already saw the judge call out Trump on Tuesday simply for gesturing in the direction of a potential juror. Now the judge is going to have to take more severe action.
Our guess is that the judge will decide not to wait for next week’s original gag order violation hearing, and will instead punish Trump in some way first thing tomorrow morning when the trial resumes. Remember, Trump has a limited set of rights as a criminal defendant. So the judge can do anything from fining Trump, to taking away his social media privileges, to locking him up for the rest of the trial.
We don’t know what the judge will do tomorrow, but he’ll surely do something. Whereas Trump has largely abided by his gag orders in previous trials, he’s now repeatedly violated his gag order now that he’s on criminal trial. Trump is either trying to get himself locked up for (stupid) strategic reasons, or he’s now too senile to understand what he’s even doing anymore. Either way, he’s going to pay. This judge does not mess around.
