Donald Trump stunned into silence
The Trump administration’s Pete Hegseth scandal got even uglier today. After Donald Trump and Hegseth both insisted that no classified information was included in the texts that Hegseth mistakenly sent to a reporter, the reporter released the classified texts this morning. So how is Trump dealing with the fallout?
In a word, he’s not. Trump has gone silent today. There hasn’t been a single post on his Truth Social account in fourteen hours. It appears that Trump has been stunned into silence, or confused into paralysis, or his babysitters took his phone away from him so he can’t do any more damage.
When a scandal is worsening by the hour and enveloping your entire administration, the dumbest thing you can do is say nothing at all. So of course Trump is doing the dumbest thing you can do. But what else would one expect from a dementia patient who thinks Hannibal Lecter is real?
If Trump had any sense he’d fire Pete Hegseth and/or Mike Waltz right now to try to make the scandal go away. But Trump has no sense, and so this scandal will continue to get worse for him.
