Donald Trump really shouldn’t have pissed off Detroit
When Donald Trump gave a speech in Detroit last week while standing at a podium that said “Detroit” on it, he spent the speech bashing Detroit. We had to hear all kinds of contrarian hot takes about how this was part of some secret strategy on his part. But Palmer Report pointed out that it was simply a mentally incompetent mistake on his part, and it was one that would hurt him. Now we’re starting to see some numerical evidence that this may have indeed hurt him.
Absentee ballots have gone out all across Michigan, and the return rates are now being reported. On average, 28% of absentee ballots have already been returned statewide. But in Detroit, an eye popping 40% of absentee ballots have already been returned already.
There are always multiple factors that can go into something like this. But as one person from the Kamala Harris campaign quipped in response to the numbers, “Donald Trump really shouldn’t have pissed off Detroit.”
Aside from highlighting yet another mentally vacant mistake on Trump’s part and a fascinating trend in Detroit, this also serves as a reminder of what’s really going on here: people are voting already. This election isn’t on November 5th. It’s not in three weeks. It’s now. It’s today. For some people election day was a week ago. They’ve already voted in 2024. Some of you reading this have already voted.
The election is now. And we’re in it now. Three weeks for all the marbles. If you’ve already voted or made a plan to vote, you now have the opportunity to spend these three weeks getting involved and getting other people to vote. “One person, one vote” is kind of a misnomer when you realize how many other people you can influence, whether it’s by phone banking and door knocking, or just helping three of your like minded friends or family or coworkers register to vote and/or getting them to the polls. We have all the power. Let’s use it for good. While Trump is out there costing himself votes, let’s make sure we help get as many votes for Kamala Harris as we can. The bigger the margin we win by, the more quickly this election will be called.
