Donald Trump panics, deletes insane social media post as everything closes in on him
Now that Alvin Bragg is reportedly getting death threats, Donald Trump has deleted his social media post threatening Bragg with a baseball bat. Trump (or someone working for him) is clearly afraid of additional charges or more restrictive pre trial conditions. This stuff just hurts Trump.
Deleting his post several days after the fact isn’t going to help Trump. If he’d deleted it after a few minutes, as soon as the condemnation started, that would be one thing. But deleting it now isn’t particularly mitigating.
The DA will have to determine if additional criminal charges over this post are likely to get a conviction at trial. But when it comes to pretrial conditions, the judge has sole discretion. If the judge thinks this baseball bat post is enough to gag order Trump, it’ll happen.
The real key is that Trump is a creature of habit. His handlers may have hidden his phone for the day. But he’ll be back at it soon, making more violent posts, giving a violent speech. And this will all hurt him further at arraignment.
Even if the judge does give Trump minimal restrictions at arraignment, the judge will inform Trump that certain behaviors will trigger additional restrictions. Short of behaving, there will be nothing Trump can do to stop those restrictions from happening to him.
So if Trump wants to find himself barred from social media, under travel restrictions, having to check in with a court officer every day, and under threat of his bail being revoked, he should just keep escalating his antics.
We’d all rather Trump just knock it off. But if this is the path he insists on going down, it’ll just mean that the criminal justice system will dismantle him more swiftly than it otherwise would.
