Donald Trump panics as his legal team completely screws him

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When your previous lawyers include the likes of Rudy Giuliani and Lin Wood, it’s difficult to imagine finding new lawyers that are even worse. Yet finding crappy people is the one thing that Donald Trump is consistently good at, and so his current legal team is straight out of the bottom of the barrel. That’s a problem for him, given that the Feds are seizing things from his home, and he’s finally on the verge of being criminally indicted.

What’s remarkable is that it’s been nearly two weeks since the Feds hauled evidence out of Trump’s home, and his criminal defense team still hasn’t taken the basic legal steps that any legal team would be expected to take. There are ways to challenge the legitimacy of the evidence seizure in court, and while those efforts typically don’t work, they’re worth trying in the hope that they might result in a partial victory. But Trump’s lawyers have instead mostly spent their time saying stupid things on camera.

Now Trump has announced on his failed social media network that he’s planning to make a Fourth Amendment challenge. As legal expert Katie Phang has spelled out, this is not how you go about things:

It’s enough to make you wonder what’s going on. Trump’s TV lawyers are way out of their league. We keep hearing that Trump’s legal team has added a couple former DOJ people who now work as defense attorneys for hire. But if so, it appears they’re either not on the job yet, or they’re not being listened to. Trump is rapidly setting himself up to lose at trial, even before the DOJ has charged him.
