Donald Trump loves nothing more than interfering in Republican primary races on behalf of whichever Republican candidate kisses his backside the most. This typically results in the Republicans going with the worst candidate possible. When Trump does this in a race where the general election is going to be competitive, it often makes it much harder for the GOP to compete in that general election.

Now Trump has done it again, this time in the 2024 U.S. Senate race in Ohio. Trump has helped hand the Republican nomination to fringe extremist Bernie Moreno, over some more viable Republican candidates who were in the race.

As the DNC War Room is pointing out, this gives an advantage to the Democrats. The Ohio Senate race is going to a be a close one. Incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is very popular within his state, but Ohio is of course trending red overall. By handing the nomination to someone like Moreno, Trump has harmed the Republicans’ odds of being able to flip the seat.

Republicans have been eyeing Ohio as perhaps their best opportunity to flip a Senate seat in 2024, and now Donald Trump has made that harder for them. Of course the Ohio race will still likely come down to a point or two in either direction. So if you want the Democrats to have any shot at keeping the Senate majority in 2024, it starts with donating or volunteering to get Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown reelected.
