Don’t let Donald Trump trick you on this one
Donald Trump, the economic wizard whose tariffs have wrecked what had been a strong economy, the foreign policy guru who just tried to buy Greenland without realizing it wasn’t for sale, the stable genius who recently managed to misspell his own name, has decided that he wants you to be afraid of him.
You should be afraid of him. Donald Trump is unnervingly unstable, dangerous erratic, and particularly obsessed with revenge on his way down. But you shouldn’t be afraid of Trump for the reasons he wants you to be afraid of him.
Take, for instance, this Trump tweet today: “Major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an “ORGANIZATION OF TERROR.” Portland is being watched very closely. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!”
Yep, that’s the kind of thing that authoritarian dictators do to dissidents. But it’s the kind of thing that whiny foot-stomping weaklings like Donald Trump say they’re going do to, without actually doing it. Trump just doesn’t have that kind of leverage, and he knows it, and he’s pissed about it, which is why he keeps amping up the histrionics when it comes to his empty threats.
As always, focus on what Donald Trump is doing, and not what he’s saying. The most damaging things he’s done, such as kidnapping immigrant children and locking them in cages, he’s tried to do as quietly as possible. When it comes to the stuff he screams on Twitter about doing, 97% of it never happens. Don’t let Trump’s hollow chest beating scare you out of your right to peaceful protest.
