Donald Trump just suffered another big loss in his New York civil fraud case
Donald Trump officially lost his New York civil fraud trial before it began, thanks to a summary judgment. That means Trump’s only remote hope of winning is to convince the appeals court to intervene. Trump lost that bid on Friday when the New York court of appeals rejected Trump’s motion to stop the trial.
So how is Trump taking the news? Based on Trump’s social media posts on Friday night, it appears his handlers have told him that he actually won the ruling. In reality, the appeals court simply stated that Trump’s assets won’t be carved up until it finishes deciding on the rest of the nonsense motions he’s filed. Given that those rejections should come within days, and the trial is going to last longer than that, nothing has been delayed and Trump hasn’t achieved anything.
Trump’s big play here was the hope that the appeals court would invalidate the trial, strike down the judge’s summary judgment, and take over the case. That was Trump’s only way out of this. But the appeals court rejected that motion. So it’s basically over for Trump now. He’s lost the trial, and his assets with it.
Of course Trump was always going to lose this appeal. The real story here may be that Trump honestly appears to believe the fish story about the appeals court having sided with him. At this point Trump is so far gone cognitively, he presumably just believes whatever his handlers tell him to believe. Trump is a goner in more ways than one.
