Donald Trump just screwed himself legally while rambling outside the courthouse

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump, whose cognitive capacity is so low that he appears to think his criminal trial is a very boring reality show, keeps trying to make things more exciting by babbling to the reporters on his way in and out of the courtroom. This doesn’t actually help him, of course. And today he may have hurt himself, legally speaking.

Trump’s defense in this trial is that he had no idea about the payments that Michael Cohen was making to Stormy Daniels. Witnesses including Cohen and Hope Hicks have testified to the contrary. And a photo introduced by the prosecution today helped confirm that Trump was indeed working with Cohen and Daniels’ attorney.

But if the prosecution is looking for another witness willing to admit that Donald Trump knew about the payments, it may have just found that witness: Donald Trump himself. When he was rambling to reporters today, he admitted that “we called it a legal expense.” That’s right, we. In other words Trump just admitted that he did know about the payments.

Trump cannot be forced to take the stand and testify against himself in a criminal trial, no matter what he admits to outside the courtroom. That said, it’s possible that the prosecution will now turn around and seek to have Trump’s statement to reporters admitted into evidence. As such, Trump just keeps screwing himself.
