Donald Trump just officially caved to Nancy Pelosi

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier this evening, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that she had succeeded in getting Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to sign off on her emergency coronavirus response legislation. But then various Republicans leaked that they weren’t okay with the legislation, raising questions about what was really going on. Now we have our answer.

Donald Trump just tweeted: “I fully support H.R. 6201: Families First CoronaVirus Response Act, which will be voted on in the House this evening.” To be clear, H.R. 6201 is the bill that Pelosi and the House Democrats introduced. In other words Trump has caved, rather than dragging it out and trying to force any minor concessions.

Now that Donald Trump has very publicly caved to Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats, look for Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans to go ahead and rubber stamp the bill once they get back from their three day weekend on Monday. Because Trump has botched the coronavirus response so thoroughly, he and the GOP have no remaining leverage on the matter, and they know it.
