Donald Trump just made a huge mistake by doing a disastrous interview with Piers Morgan
For the past year-plus since he left office, Donald Trump’s handlers appear to have been doing everything they can to keep him out of the public eye. His rallies are rare. His interviews are even more rare. When he does periodically appear in public, we’re all reminded why his handlers try to keep him hidden: he’s declined severely in the cognitive department.
Now Trump has sat down for an on-camera interview with tabloid schmuck Piers Morgan. It’s not clear if Trump’s handlers mistakenly thought that Morgan would coddle him, or if they just couldn’t stop Trump from doing the interview. Either way, Morgan is a man with no actual positions of his own who only cares about generating controversy by any means possible โ and in this case that meant telling Trump to his face that he lost the 2020 election.
Piers Morgan has posted a thirty second preview of the interview. It apparently went so poorly for Trump, he ended up angrily walking out while the cameras were rolling, This means Trump must have gotten totally steamrolled by Morgan:

Video footage of Donald Trump being overmatched by a known twit like Piers Morgan, and walking out in a defeated huff, is the last thing Trump needs. The best thing Trump had going for him these past fifteen months was that he was only appearing in public rarely, and that these appearances were mostly being ignored by the media and the public. But now everyone is going to tune in to see Trump get outwitted by a known stooge โ and everyone is going to see just how little is left of his rotting cognitive abilities.
The more Donald Trump is exposed like this, the harder it’s going to be for him and his handlers to keep up the illusion that he’s going to run for President in 2024. That illusion is crucial to Trump’s ability to keep taking in unregulated quasi-campaign donations, which he can stick in his own pocket. But now Trump is out there shattering that illusion by letting everyone see that he’s a goner. It’s not about his too-small base, which would vote for him even if he were a corpse. It’s about everyone else, including the people in the middle, seeing how little is left of him.
This interview was a really, really bad idea for Trump. The more he puts his cognitively incompetent self out there like this, the more it shifts the prevailing media narrative from “Trump 2024 is inevitable” to “Trump doesn’t even know where he’s at anymore.” The media, on the left and right, was plenty willing to spend 2022 and 2023 chasing ratings by hyping Trump’s imaginary 2024 campaign. But now Trump is making it a lot harder for the media to get that hype to stick. Here’s hoping Trump keeps doing these kinds of disastrous interviews and finishes himself off.
