Donald Trump just gave away that he knows he’s finished

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the weekend Donald Trump used Truth Social, a failing social media network that he only hasn’t been banned from because he owns it, to share a post which appeared to call for “civil war.” It was vague enough that the average American probably wouldn’t get into any legal trouble by posting it. But given that Trump is the former Commander in Chief of the United States military, and that he’s already incited one attack aimed at violently overthrowing the United States government, it’s perhaps a different matter.

As egregious as Trump’s post was, and as dangerous as his rhetoric can be, there’s really only one word to put this into the proper context: pathetic. Leave it to Donald Trump to wait until long after he’s out of power, after he’s become irrelevant enough that his endorsements are flopping, and after he’s under confirmed federal criminal investigation, to meekly call for “civil war” now that he’s just a punchline.

During his time in office, Donald Trump had a consistent habit of being tepid, hesitant, wishy washy, and waiting too long to make a decision on anything. Often, by the time he finally took aggressive action on something, it was too late to make an impact. If anything, Trump would wait until he could clearly see that he was going to lose, and then make a last minute panic move that predictably fell flat.

For all his bravado and bluster, his decision making was consistently a day late and a dollar short. Now here’s Trump again, finally deciding to take that evil step of calling for “civil war” in exact words, long after he’s become too irrelevant to actually incite one.

So what is Trump even doing? Likely lashing out. His Georgia candidate David Perdue is going to lose by a few dozen points this week, underscoring that Trump’s electoral relevance is over. There obviously won’t be a 2024 for him. The January 6th Committee is about to hold public hearings that’ll be profoundly damaging to him – and everyone from Rudy Giuliani to Ivanka Trump has given apparently cooperative testimony. And while it’s not getting the headlines it should, Trump is under confirmed DOJ criminal investigation. New York Attorney General Letitia James is also weeks or days away from dropping the hammer on the Trump Organization as well.

Donald Trump is lashing out like this because it’s all he has left. His relevance is fading by the day. His legal troubles are now more relevant to his future than any 2024 pipe dream. And he knows it. He even had to sell off his hotel down the street from the White House, underscoring that he’s in just that bad of financial shape, and that he’s obviously not planning on residing at the White House again. All Trump has left is this weak attempt at stirring the pot, on his own failing social network that no one cares about. Again, there’s a word to put this in the proper context: pathetic.
