Donald Trump just gave away how hopelessly outmatched he is in his January 6th criminal trial

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There’s an entire cottage industry in which Donald Trump and what’s left of his legal team do something incoherently inept and stupid, and then folks try to figure out what his “strategy” is. But in reality there simply is no strategy. Trump just unwittingly made that clear with his latest court filing in his January 6th federal criminal trial.

Trump’s filing is long winded, but the short of it is that he thinks the prosecution has to put on a “defense” and he thinks the “cross and the sword” is a legal term. You can read an excellent detailed breakdown of the whole thing here, but suffice it to say that Trump’s filing is an inept joke.

This the part where contrarians always try to explain how Trump’s latest disastrous filing is somehow part of his secret evil genius strategy to get himself off the hook. But none of it’s based in reality. Trump’s nonsense filing isn’t going to delay the trial. Nor is he going to be able to get anywhere later by arguing that he had bad counsel or that he’s mentally incompetent.

What we’re seeing is Donald Trump giving away that he’s hopelessly outmatched heading into his criminal trial. He has no strategy. He has no one on his legal team who has any hope of helping him. This trial is just going to happen to him while he sits there confused, and then he’s going to whine about it, and then he’s going to prison. It’s growing more obvious with each passing day.
