Donald Trump just forfeited his third civil case in three days – and it’s clear he’s in full retreat
Donald Trump basically forfeited his New York civil fraud case by leaving town without testifying. The. He dropped his civil suit against Michael Cohen just before he was supposed to testify. Now Trump has dropped yet another civil suit – this time against Judge Engoron.
What makes this suit different is that it was the kind of nuisance suit that was never going to get to the discovery or deposition stage. So Trump apparently didn’t drop this suit to avoid testifying.
At this point it’s fair to say that Trump is pulling the plug across the board. He clearly lacks the will to keep fighting, or the money to keep fighting, or both. That’s not surprising, given that the judge has begun the formal steps of freezing Trump’s assets ahead of seizure. Trump simply isn’t going to have the money to pay his legal bills – or any other bills – going forward.
