Donald Trump just did us a big favor
As recently as last week the California Governor recall race was roughly tied. But thanks to everyone’s hard work of late, Gavin Newsom has now opened a twelve point lead in the polling averages. In a wackily formatted election like this, the polls may be less accurate than usual, meaning no lead is safe – meaning we have to keep putting in the work during these final five days.
Sensing that Newsom might be on track to win, and leading Republican candidate Larry Elder could end up losing, Donald Trump is doing what he always does: he’s insisting that the recall election is rigged. This is predictable. It’s also fortunate.
When rank and file voters hear that the election is rigged such that their side is going to lose anyway, many of them tend to give up and not bother putting in the effort to get out the vote. Now that right wingers are hearing Trump proclaim that the Republicans are going to lose no matter what, they’re less likely to make an effort to win.
This hands us a golden opportunity. All we have to do is spend this final stretch putting in the work and getting out the vote, and we’ll be in prime position to win the recall race. Trump, who cares more about not having to admit defeat than he does about whether he wins or loses, just did us a favor. Now let’s go seal the deal.
